Sferra is a luxury home textiles house founded in 1891 by Gennaro Sferra, an Italian craftsman who left Venice for the United States with a trunk of handmade Venetian lace and sold it to society tastemakers summering along the East Coast. Run by his sons Enrico and Albert through the mid-20th century, the house grew from lace and table linens into bedding and bath, weaving in Italy from the world's finest long-staple Egyptian cotton. It pioneered Giza 45 - the rarest grade of Egyptian cotton - and in 2001 introduced the first 1,020-thread-count bed linen. Its Celeste percale became America's most popular luxury sheet, and its linens have dressed White House state dinners, the Vatican and celebrity homes alike - hotel-grade Italian bedding built to last decades.
