Rag & Bone is an American label founded in New York in 2002 by two British expats, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville, who had no formal fashion training but a clear idea: make clothes they and their friends would actually wear every day. The name comes from the British slang 'rag and bone man' - a collector of things nobody else wants. It started with men's denim, learned its craft from Kentucky artisans, added its first full menswear line in 2004 and womenswear in 2005, and grew into a full lifestyle brand spanning tailoring, footwear, handbags and childrenswear. Wainwright and Neville won the CFDA Menswear Designer of the Year award in 2010; Guess Inc. and WHP Global acquired the brand in 2024. The look is downtown New York seen through an English tailoring lens - understated, precisely cut, built on great fabric.
